“Probably the biggest thing to come out of this Q&A is the fact that there is currently no unique identification for Guilds in terms of Tabards/Emblems. I can see why Tabards may not yet be in game, as they could seem slightly out of place in the SWTOR universe, but some Guilds will not be happy with no unique identification system.”
I agree that guild ID is important and that tabards are tacky. I was hoping for some sort of patch for chest or perhaps cloak..
PS- I could have missed it, but they they say that the factions will have separate chat channels?
Hey Nora! As far as I’m aware the opposing Factions will only be able to communicate with each other via “Say” or “Local” chat at this time, via the devs.
Oh excellent! TY for the info!
I would very much love to see a custom guild emblem system where you could upload one to the game. I know that so many guilds out there have already crafted their own for websites and such and it would be nice for those to transfer over. I know that this could be problematic, some emblems are far too busy to transfer well. You will also have the inevitable people who decide to upload something not fit for public consumption.
I know it would not be ideal but it could be a self-policing system. Players who see an emblem that is unfit could then report it, hopefully getting it removed in a timely manner. But these days I’m guessing any game company would rather run with a system that is strictly regulated, giving players a specific set of emblems to pick from ala WoW.
Next, I think surnames in the game are a must. For one, BioWare is saying this game is all about story, and having a surname to your character lends that extra bit of immersion. It connects them to a past, a family and emotionally to the player. Having last names also, I believe, induces players to create original names rather than “CoolDude” or “ObiWonPwnobi” or some such ridiculous name.
“ObiWonPwnobi”

Vader as Alliance?
He wanted to Roleplay. Said he was tired of the “same old thing”
Didn’t GZ reply to that cover thing, saying that bosses could knock players out of cover even with out range attacks?
Or am I getting 2 issues mingled up together ?
That could work, Aion uses an emblem system exactly like that which you describe. Obviously the emblems had to be fairly simple for a variety of reasons, but I don’t see why Bioware could not implement something like this.
First, thanks for the plug!
I’m glad you found the interview informative!
I need to correct you though on one point… The “tag” feature in question was related more to claiming a mob as your own out in the real world. Essentially, it works exactly the same as WoW. You or your companion can tag a mob by attacking it, then it becomes yours. For other players, they’ll see the mobs icon change color to know that they can still attack it, but they won’t get the loot of xp from the kill.
It wasn’t really about tagging mobs for group coordination in flashpoints and operations.
Great clarification – thanks!
Perhaps the other type of tagging will be a class skill with some attack/debuff advantage….
Very nice, thanks for the clarification GamewizX! Glad to see you stopping by here at TORWars, as well!
The the topic of players in cover, GZ jumped in later to explain that certain powerful mobs had AOE abilities that will affect cover classes while in cover, and that some of these abilities can also knock them out of cover.
Before GZ’s clarification, I think that was the point of debate about possible cover mechanic exploits. Looks like BW has this figured out, but I suspect there will always be little tricks that cover classes will be able to use until they are generally known and patched.
A guild emblem on the shoulder of your armour would be cool, tabards or cloaks with an emblem on really doesnt fit in Star Wars so if they are going to do anything they should put an extra slot for an armour overlay for one of the shoulder plates which the guild can design its own emblem for.
