Georg Zoeller demonstrates a new Force power - Force Fire Breath

Hello, dear friends, and welcome to this week’s TORWars podcast. This is an unusual podcast, in that it consists almost entirely of developer comments. Even better, many of these comments come from our exclusive interviews with both Daniel Erickson and Georg Zoeller. As you might imagine, both Daniel and Georg give us some very juicy insights into Star Wars: The Old Republic, and we’re very happy to have all these juicy tidbits, hints, clues, and reveals all to our selfish little selves.

“Like what?”, I hear you asking. “What’s the big deal?” Well, let me tell you – here’s what we talk about on this week’s show:

Absolutely fantastic show guys. This was grade A Nerf meat delivered fresh from the TORWars galaxy. You guys covered a lot of great topics today. It was a really fun show to listen to.

I’m with you David on the whole space combat thing. I would have liked to see more at launch, but it is what it is. All I can do is advocate for more.

I’m surprised that DE gave the no e-sports response in regards to warzones because Gabe made it pretty clear in a few interviews that is the direction they eventually would like to take warzones post launch at PAX.

There are going to be things left out of the game for launch that people think should be there. I’m pretty sure of that as well. Other than the whole guild thing, I don’t know exactly what is going to get the axe, but it will be something. Perhaps character customization.

The whole story driven pvp is a load of bull. Any slap shod writer can make an excuse for pvp in a setting that is a Galactic War. So, while pvp might be “story driven”, even I can make up story for pvp for more warzones or open world controllable objectives, that doesn’t take a rocket scientist.

As a pvp player, I think three warzones at launch is pretty light actually. It’s workable, but I’d like to see one or two more in less than six months post launch. In this our year 2011, comparing TOR to six year old mmos and older at launch is silly. Things have changed since then. MMO players expect more from a launched product, and there’s no way that will ever change back.

Good show guys, I really enjoyed listening.

I look forward to listening to this show every week, I think it would be cool if it was longer or more often, but I understand its alot of work so, beggers cant be choosers.

I do want to say, having just coming through the beta weekend, this show is a bit painful to listen too, because throughout the show I kept thinking oh oh, I know the answer to that or oh oh, thats wrong.

I do hope one or more of your staff get into the beta, even though you wont be able to break the NDA, your comments about what might be or might not be in the game will be much more educated.

I wish I could say more, but as you mention in the podcast, saying anything other then I was in the beta would break the NDA

Good show, as usual. But just to be somewhat controversial…

I don’t really understand why people get so worked up over these little tweaks to the films. You both know very well that had Return of the Jedi included those “No”s originally and then George Lucas came back with the Blu-ray to remove them, you’d be saying, “What! Those ‘No’s were sacred! They gave the scene its meaning!”

Interesting point. There’s no way exactly to test this theory though. He hasn’t taken out anything from the Original movies to see if we’d react badly to it.

In general, I’m mostly against him changing it period. Sure, it’s his right to change them, but they are a part of my life and a part of many others people’s lives. It’s all part of many people’s shared cultural heritage. Seeing it changed is kind of like screwing with our memories and it sort of lessens our shared experience. There are kids that will grow up only knowing that Greedo shot first and the other part knowing that Han did. While we are watching the same intellectual property, it’s hard to form that shared bond with people.

In short, I think changes, good or bad, simply serve to divide the community as it alters the experience that people have with the films depending on when you saw it.

Can you imagine if someone went back and started fiddling with the scenes of Casablanca or something?
