Very happy, cheaper than i predicted. Naturally, 6 months from the get go :P I was expecting 120 pounds for a full 12 months, so it’s overall around 30 pounds net total than i expected.

To me it seems quite cheap!

    • Tallon says:

Completely agree – a six month subscription is what I’ll be going for as well. Now I’ve finally had my hands on the game it makes me a bit more confident for the future! Hutball had me hooked straight off.

  2. menglor says:

The savings of 24$ per year is an interesting question, what if the game sucks, then you cant cancel, so your out 170$

granted its not going to suck, but what if your interest isnt going to last that long.

that 2$ a month extra is almost like an insurance policy :)

    • Auton says:

Thankfully we get a free month to decide if we like it. I figure I will probably go month to month for a bit to make sure I am going to stick with it, and then flip the switch (see what I did there?) on a 6mo recurring.

    • slackerj says:

I’m not really worried about cancelling because I don’t like the game, but I am concerned that I may become to busy to play.

For that reason the month to month makes more sense to me. Plus I like having options! :)

  3. ZeroEdgeir says:

Been on 6 month recurring with WoW the last 2 years, will likely do the same for this one too.

  4. Auton says:

Not to nitpick (ok ok, nitpicking here) but the yearly cost with the 6 month sub is 155.88, not 155.98.

  5. darth something says:

Pricing seems fine to me. Naturally – I’ll be getting on the 6 month at a time payment plan – since i plan on playing it for many many years yet.

  6. Fallerup says:

the 1 $ save from subscription 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3 means little. sure, it’s 6 bucks, but for half a year. If I wasn’t sure I’d like it, I would play it safe and just use a monthly subscription. But then again, you get to try it a whole month “for free” (you already bought 1 month with your game), so I’d say that’s enough to determine if you like it or not. As for me, I might be going for the 3 month subscription, like I did in WoW. And if I feel tired of it at some point, I’ll switch to monthly until I finally take a break :) (just like I did with WoW)

  7. Swarde says:

“the next big question everyone is asking is How much?”
no…the next big question is how much days will be the Early game access
who cares about pricing? the majority would pay even double for a month anyway

  8. Prospero says:

Actually I thought the price is fine … until I realised this:

    FOR US-AMERICANS 14.99 x 12 = 179.88$ | 1:1 | SUM: 179.88$
    FOR BRITTISH 8.99 x 12 = 107.88£ | 1:1,54 | SUM: 166.13$
    FOR €UROPEANS 12.99 x 12 = 155.88£ | 1:1,36 | SUM: 211.99$

Oo holy crap what is this? I kind of expected it, that i have to pay slightly more than others but >50$/year ??? That makes me kind of sad !!!

  9. grenith says:

    @prospero
If that price is including the 20% vat tax its kind of a good deal.

    211,99 times 0,80 = 169,59$

Now if that is the price before vat tax I think i’ll be crying in my sleep after each renewal tick :)

  10. Thrishmal says:

I would like to see a lifetime option, but I don’t expect to see one. Bioware would be losing out on too much money in the long run if they did that.

    • slackerj says:

I think it would be cool if they had something like a free three or six month subscriptions for TOR in future Bioware games. Hell, I’d be happy with just one free month which would be like a $15 discount.

  11. Pathos says:

Lets face it, it’s still cheaper than driving to the pub for a beer, and I know I’d rather be playing SWTOR for a month, than paying for petrol, to drive to a pub, to buy a drink, and to listen to crap conversations, about nothing of any relevance and still spend more than $15 to do so. I went out today and it cost me $40 for food and drinks. So I do go out, but I would definitely prefer SWTOR to drinking if I had to choose one or the other.

    Pathos.

  12. Geckomayhem says:

It’s the exact same cost as WoW. It surprises me just how _much_ they are charging. Why not $9.99? Fifteen bucks a month is a lot to spare for some people; especially for a game that anyone who has a job and family will struggle to find 20 hours a month to play.

I’d rather have had a credit-based system, where you pay for your time spent logged in, rather than a monthly fee. That way, casual players could essentially pay 5-10 bucks and “hardcore” players (ie. people with too much time on their hands) could pay up to 20 bucks a month.

That SWTOR is following the same pricing model as WoW is yet another thing they’ve simply copied from Blizzard. Disappointing. But hey, at least if you buy the game you can play for 30 days and see if it’s your cup of tea, right? :)

  13. Yar says:

Agreed. Would be way better to pay based on gameplay time. Even though they may not make as much, like 103 billion instead of 105 billion, whatver the difference may be. At least in would be fair to us not having to pay for unused time. In conclusion, that would be the ultimate payment preference.

  14. izak says:

also i think that swtor being monthly subscription sux big time.

  15. Fluke_Job says:

love the look of all the previews of the game play so far, but with just about any game i’ve played it’s always fallin a minumum of 25% short of the advertised product. missing perks, content not delivered on…. i tried pay to play and flatly refuse to do so again on incomplete product…. a horrible case in point being startrek online… yuck!

  16. LordOfPit says:

Happy, but I would prefer a Lifetime subscription for anywhere from $300 to $500.

  17. Izzy says:

So i game tested SWTOR this weekend and it’s amazing! It was everything I was looking for in a Star Wars MMO. I’m never going back to WOW. I actually think it is a better game than WOW so far. It’s just a friendlier game to the average user and provides plenty of opportunities for the hard core gamer to kick ass. Plus the voice overs work wonders. I mean who even wants to read a quest. I’m too lazy for that. I’d personally like to see TOR have an option to have a lifetime subscription for $1000. I’d pay that in a heartbeat because I know I’ll be playing it for a long time.

  18. Dusty says:

I also beta tested last weekend. I thought the game looked good, and played well, but after playing WoW for some months and eventually getting very bored with repetitive quests like:
    - kill x amount of these
    - collect x amount of these (which will only drop 20% of the time)
    - take this over there (on foot, really slowly, miles away)
    - make x amount of these (and then never see them again)

…I’m pretty sure the same will happen with SWTOR. My interest will wane, and I will not have had good value for money. WoW felt like a real chore in the end, especially crafting, and using the marketplace. Time-consuming and tiresome.

Also too many bad memories of healers not healing, and people pulling too many enemies during instances, causing party wipe-out, plus people wandering off and not waiting until everybody is ready, etc.

Nope, I don’t think MMO’s are for me, but I was glad of the opportunity to play SWTOR, so I could decide for sure.

  19. Psyko says:

No offense to anyone complaining paying $14.99 a month for a game is too expensive, when you can put unlimited ammounts of time into it, but if you compare it to any other form of entertainment, cost per hour on MMOs is far less.

A movie for example $7-$12 for 1.5-2+ hours(excluding concessions), an ammusement park $30-$60 for as much as 10-12 hours(excluding concessions). Hell a DVD/Bluray is about $5 for 2 hours not including the gas you need to spend to go get it. Your complaining about up to 744 hours for $15 bucks…really??? Granted not too many people can pull off that many hours but come on your complaining about litterally 2 cents per hour….do the math.

I think the people that complain about price per month either want multiple subs, or again no offense, but if $5 in a whole months time is too much to bear you probably shouldn’t be spending the other $9.99 anyhow.

  20. Mikael says:

Although it is a decent price for a MMORPG, I wish that all MMOs could have a set buying price, and no subscription rate. I would much rather pay $100-150 straight up rather than paying $15 dollars a month.

  21. [...] hope you haven’t put away the backs of your napkins yet. Given the subscription pricing structure, after infrastructure costs and whatnot, let’s assume EA takes home $10 per month per [...]

  22. aff4366 says:

because you’re a pathetic WoW faggot with no life? Yeah…

  23. Boom says:

$20 a month? No game is worth that much, even with just speculation, damn.

  24. JJag says:

Can someone tell me why we have to pay freaking $50+ bucks for the game and still cough up $14.99 per month????? They should price the game lower like $34.99. Greedy scums
