This is a very tough question and one I’m sure many people are asking themselves! How much time will you devote to Star Wars: The Old Republic when it first launches? Since SWTOR is being released over the Christmas holiday it will naturally affect the amount of time we’ll will have to play the long awaited game. So, while we may have a certain amount of time we’d like to spend, it may not be the length we’ll get actually get!
Rather ironically, if you’re Australian it’s the perfect time for release because it’s the middle of summer. Their school terms are February to November; which means the middle of December is when they have their summer break. So for many students in that area it is the most ideal circumstance so it’d be a shame if they are left out of launch.
But what if you’re not a student? It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the majority of players aren’t students and many players have full-time jobs or have children, or both. So whilst they have a break around Christmas time they’ll also have to juggle holiday responsibilities and children that are enjoying the most special time of the year.
My personal circumstance is that I am a student in the last year of my degree and rather annoyingly there simply couldn’t be a bigger distraction arriving! I’m currently finishing work ahead of schedule so that I can spend as much time as possible playing the game during Christmas before I have to knuckle down again and force myself to ration game time. I rejoiced back at the start of the year when BioWare seemed to imply that SWTOR was coming out over summer and well, we all know how that turned out!
So, how about you? Will you be rushing away from your Christmas lunch as soon as you’re allowed? How much time are you going to spend on SWTOR during its hectic release? Or rather, how much time would you like to spend?

My goal is to be caught up with grading my students’ papers the week before Dec 20th, so that when early access starts I won’t feel bad about spending every moment I’m not watching my kids playing TOR. I doubt I’ll sleep much…bring on the coffee!
As soon as they announced the launch i booked off my vaca time at work, lol. I predicting a 3-4 day head start since ppl will be tapering in so i booked off the 17th-24th lol, oh wait then another couple days break for xmas and boxing day woot so i have like 10 days straight to play lol. Except for the whole tree and present ceremony at my parents house im pretty much blowing off the rest of my family to play lol. Thank you life….
AGHH i’ll be playing a ton for the first week of launch (+ a few extra days hopefully depending on how early release works, etc…) but then I WILL BE GOING HOME FOR XMAS FOR LIKE A WEEK and will be sad that I cannot play…thought I guess my family is cool so it isn’t all bad seeing them…
I shall make you all very jealous and say that i finish mid december and don’t go back until very late January!
I have two weeks off work starting on the 17th!
You sly devil! Have you stashed away your annual leave for the entire year, for a swtor blow out frenzy!?
I’m probs going to grab a couple of days off – any longer than that and the mrs would prep me for DIY jobs around the house
Way too much, probably. >.>
Spend ALL the time!
Will be playing with my brother, but not until the start of next year. He’s in retail, and they are not allowed to take time off until the new year.
How much time I will spend: Too much.
How much time I would like to spend: Way too much.
//@mostlythis
I will be playing as long as the caffine, food, and energy drinks hold out. Cath and bed pan already prepared …. lol see you all there!
Every minute will be devoted once I get my hands on SWTOR. >:)
I am a student at the University of Michigan, and luckily my exams are done Dec 16th, so I plan on early access being right around that time. I will most likely devote 3-4 days of simply SWTOR, sleep, and eating. Then off to the family for Christmas and much less time each day.
depends on how good i feel the game is….. =P
Unfortunately, I know very well I will never get to play as much as I like. I have a bad shoulder and extended mouse work strains it. So, it’ll probably be 3 to 4 hours every 2 to 3 days.
Way too much time. No work. Girlfriend gone away to see family. I’ll have at least a week of non-stop SWTOR playing, and more time after that. Figure I’ll have at least a month of eight hours a day of playing.
Every single last minute of winter break
Well, I’ve saved up (or not used) 5 days of my annual leave that I have to use by the end of Dec, but I am not allowed to use any of it for the week that the fat bloke gets stuck behind my gas fire. So, I’m gonna hope that the week prior is ALL early access and I’m gonna hold a couple of days back for that week.
“Why not take the whole week off?” I hear you ask. Well, I’m on a 2mb connection and I expect it to take around 40 or so hours to d/load (throttling included)
Oops, to actually answer the question, every single f*@king minute that I am awake and that I can steal from my normal sleep pattern.
Virtually all my spare time is going, and then some. Only spending a day or two with family for Christmas. Should I find work by then, than it will be all the spare time gone. However, I trust it to be time well, well spent.
ARE YOU AUSIE!!!!!! Me ill be jugling 4 toons 1 between my borther and nephew. Ima try and get them all to lv 10 within the week. Apparently that takes 10 hours. So thats 40 in week one, almost like a work shift jesus. After that bout to hours a night and every fortnight pvp weekends. I just didnt think we ausies were getting it for xmass. are you sure?! I pre ordered from amazon, but delivery is estimated for Jan
haha nah i’m not Australian but i’ve looked into going to the University of Melbourne so i’m quite clued up on their terms!
Can’t you order the digital deluxe from SWTOR/origin anyway?
The answer to this for me is….Too much.
I personally will be spending every moment I can d (”.) b
Probably 80 – 90 hours a week at first…dropping down to 40-50 hours a week after the first couple months. But I am not going to spend my time “power-leveling”. I will be exploring, making Alts, RPing and just having all sorts of fun! And my wife will be joining me for probably 8 or so hours a week of it (I’m guessing).
Christmas leave for the U.S. Army starts around 16 DEC ish till 2 JAN ish. So ya I’ll talk to you all on 3 JAN.
Classes are done by the 10th and its my last semester so other than holiday family time i get to play for a month or so b4 i gotta find a job
Alot!
Having found out today that my paid time off does not carry over year to year, I decided to use it on the 20th and 21st of Dec to allow me plenty of time to SWtOR my effin brains.
lol
**out.
I have warned my wife that she will see very little of me that week until Christmas. But I told her, “look on the bright side…you will have the TV remote all to yourself!!”
lol
But in reality I’m not going to be able to take time off of work until the weekend so staying up late and playing every evening isn’t going to be an option really.
But I imagine an all night and day gaming session beginning friday evening and ending late saturday wouldn’t be out of the question!
My wife knows she will be a TOR widow for at least a week. I did promise I would take a day off to celebrate our anniversary though.
Kill the Bunny!
Then, let me in the beta…
Wife and I are both taking the week off. Also, did anyone else notice that the majority of people commenting are adults with jobs and spouses? I take this as a good sign! Leave the kids in WoW!
lol yeah, I did actually notice that very same thing. Hopefully it’s not just the TORWARS following
My last lecture is Dec 21st… seriously considering not showing up for that one. The one before that should be on the 14th, which is probably too early for early access to have begun. Meanwhile my wife is finishing her master thesis this semester, and then popping off back home to Brazil to spend a couple of months with her family, before she has to start a full time job… which means I will probably be devoting 6 days a week, 15 hours a day to SWTOR until she comes back in early march..
asked off for 3 days, 20-22
How much time?
All of it.
If by some miracle, i could play at launch – i’d say…..every waking moment, except when i need to eat or do the shopping or go out somewhere ( which isn’t often).
This is going to be a bigger addiction than when i first played KOTOR earlier this year, and that was a pretty big addiction.anj n
Enough to forget the meaning of the word “sleep” indefinitely.
just bought bf3, thought i should have something to kill time with untill swtor release… well i think i’ve spent 10-12 hrs on that each day since i got it (this saturday)… i fear for my life at SWTOR release, sleep deprevation, dehydration and malnutrition.
Looking forward to it!
Booked the week of the 19th off and not back to work till 28th. hoping early access starts on saturday as my christmas works party is the 15th and i’ll be out getting smashed and hoping to shag a manager.
so 16th – 28th is pretty much all on swtor bar xmas dinner and presents opening!
very sad, but equally very awesome.
My Finals will be over on the 16th of December. Every waking hour I can spend playing I will be playing for a few weeks
.
I like your style bro
Hopefully a good bit. However, I foresee some server problems in our future. Battlefield 3 just launched last week and their still having problems with multiplayer due to demand. I see SWTOR having this issue times 3 and am not looking forward to being even more pissed off during the holidays.
I’ll be playing as much as I can, providing work and other IRL stuff don’t get in the way. Being single does has some benefits. Not many, but some.
Pathos.
Having just quit my job with no need for one anytime soon…my god…I shutter to think how much time I’ll put into the game. YAY!!!!! =8-Þ
