Reverse Engineering for Fun and Profit

If you’re a fan of the Crew Skills system, this should come of interest. It seems that some item drops in SWTOR can be “reverse engineered”, and may yield plans. What are the plans used for? Why, to create new (and possibly rare) items, of course!

Why would someone reconstruct the most irritating droid in the galaxy?

Momus over at AskAJedi has a great column on this topic; he explores the potential risks and rewards of reverse engineering items just to obtain new plans, what this will do to the economy of the game, and how you, the player, may profit from this.

Is this something that will interest the average crafter? My guess is that it’s going to be a necessary evil – if you’re a crafter, you’ll probably have to sacrifice the occasional item in order to get new schematics/plans/recipes. Of course, much about this is still unknown, and it may turn out that this system is more than simply a money sink, and can be turned to a player’s benefit. Anyway, check out what Momus has to say about this crafty topic right here. :)

I just realized a problem with the whole “Wookies are awesomeone mechanics” thing: Most electronics and other sensitive machinery don’t like getting fur in them.

I wouldn’t call 3PO sensitive machinery. Obtuse, perhaps. Clueless, almost certainly. Annoying, definitely. But not sensitive.
