Prima Games is releasing a classy, 256 page book on December 20th entitled Star Wars: The Old Republic Explorer’s Guide. The hefty tome features “hundreds of maps” and “the location of every hidden Datacron”…which kind of defeats the purpose for real explorers doesn’t it? Still, it’s bound to be something you’ll want on your shelf at home for the “tons of exclusive concept art” and “Custom-made world maps including every taxi, bind point, vendor, and more”.
Amazon is listing the book for $19.49 and Random House has it priced at $34.00.
Amazon Quote:

no point in this at all, most of it will be outdated within 6-9 months of launch
Knowing Prima, most of it will probably be wrong to start with.
To be honest I would love this thing for the sheer amount of information and the concept art, but I would hate myself because I felt like I cheated.
location of every hidden Datacron…. didnt they say they would be changing the position of the datacrons at launch so beta players would have to hunt for them also.
also wowhead style sites will make this kind of release a tad pointless
For $20 I’m picking it up just as a collector and for the concept art. It’s obviously going to be outdated in a flash for the maps/data
Guides are always useful even if alot of it becomes outdated. They get newwer guides down the line as well.
This is 2011, we have internet.

I had a $50 walmart giftcard and they didn’t have any time cards for SWTOR so i snagged this and a bluray. The book is very informational. It shows taxi locations on every planet for both repub and sith sides, shows datacron locations.
The best thing is if you’re in game you dont need to windows key out and search the web for halfassed websites. You can simpley open the book. Flip to the planet and look up where that taxi or datacron is.
It also gives slight class info to beginners as to what skills you should be aiming for.
Its a very good book. The information won’t be OUTDATED per say because the datacrons and taxi and planets will always be the same.
However, if you dont have the money then there is no NEED to purchase because you can use the web to obtain the same information.
Its a good buy if you have an old gift card laying around.
