The staff at MMORPG.com has gotten together and published a “Roundtable Review” of Star Wars: The Old Republic.
The general consensus is very favorable with several 9/10 marks and an 8.5/10 rating, however one fellow has gifted the game with a 6/10, calling it “great for Star Wars fans, but mediocre for everyone else.” I fall more toward the 9/10 side of things (big surprise!) but have a read and see what you think.

“After waiting four years for this game, it had a lot to prove. So far I’ve loved every second of it. After playing a Sith Warrior in beta so as not to spoil any story for myself, my adventures as a Jedi Consular have been incredibly enjoyable. To all the people who rubbished BioWare’s claims about the 4th pillar of story giving the genre a new dynamic, I have to disagree. I feel engaged with my character, I get a sense of progression from my personal story, not just my level, and I’m confident that if this continues at endgame I’ll never get bored. The crew skills are incredibly addictive and the on-rails space shooting is simplistic but feels cinematic. The music is stonkingly good; hearing those familiar horns and strings piping up in the middle of a tough battle just feels glorious.”

And that’s why any good metascore should drop the lowest and highest individual scores: There’s always that one guy with a huge deviation (usually a negative one) that throws off the whole average.
It’s completely banal to say this, but SWTOR is simply a great game.
Sure there are things that can be improved, but seriously, it’s fun, addictive, and likely to only get better.
Even if all I get out of it is 8 class stories, then it was more than worth the money, and I expect to get a lot more out of it anyway.
