Have you been waiting to get your game on? Well, the servers are back online for Star Wars: The Old Republic. BioWare did some hotfixing overnight to fix a problem that was affecting a number of players.
The patch notes for today are here:
General
Improved service to reduce the number of player disconnections to the character selection screen.
Decreasing the number of disconnections is always A Good Thing. For those of you who have been experiencing problems with those disconnects, this should hopefully reduce or eliminate the issue. Thanks to the ‘Server Maintenance Strike Force’ for keeping the game running smoothly for all of us!

What they should do is those on a monday or thurs night, not during the weekend when the main paying base gets to play. Just my two cents.
It appears that it’s because of a serious issue with repeated client crashes – like once per hour, the game would crash for some people.
Yeah, if it was happening to me that often, I’d want it fixed ASAP, too. I’m not going to begrudge our disconnecting friends their hotfix.
On the other hand, it messed up something in my launcher, so I had to uninstall/reinstall the game. Sigh.
once per hour reboot, takes 2 minutes to get back into the game, say 8 reboots per day at 2 minutes a pop that is 16 minutes, considering the next maintenance is in 3 days, that means a total of 48 minutes of disruptions for those people.
6 hours downtime to fix 48 minutes of downtime makes absolutely no sense to me. This could have waited until Tuesday.
If you’ve ever had a disconnect right smack dab in the middle of a major boss fight, a raid, PvP, or flashpoint right at the end, it is absolutely infuriating, frustrating, and a host of naughty words I won’t say in front of us in case my kids are reading this. I’ll take the planned down time over the unplanned disconnect any day.
At least with the planned maintenance, I can go get other stuff done–catch up on some other games, some reading/writing, housecleaning (God forbid!) and prepping a nice meal ahead of time so that I have more time to play when the servers do come back up.
And on the other hand for us in the UK the servers go down at 8am so we lost an entire morning for something that as callum said could have waited till tuesday.
I’ve only had two disconnects to character screen. Sadly, one of them happened just after this overnight update. Success?
