This week we take a walk on the Manga-ish side of things with a big heaping helping of Mandos, Clone troopers and a new little green haired girl who may just shoot her way into your hearts! Allow me to present the artworks of Rayn and her cartoon strips with Jango Fett and Aira-ty Nokta!
Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Really few people call me on my real name, so let’s forget about it, for my friends and for everyone on the net I’m Rayn. I’ll be 24 years old on January 30, and I’m from Hungary. I just finished all my studies, after High School I took two years of Multimedia and two years of Graphics, but I don’t have a job yet, so I use my time to draw or write.
How long have you been drawing? What got you started?
Well, I’ve drawn since I was 8 years old. My drawing career started with famous Animes like Sailor moon and Dragon ball, I practiced to draw their characters day by day. Then because I loved to imagine stories, create characters and I wanted to see how they look like, I started to design them. I wrote my own stories and illustrated them. I still draw manga-ish, but I have my own style now.
Do you always use the same mediums?
2 years ago I drew only traditional pics, but then I bought a tablet, since then I draw only digitally. I started with Photoshop, but now I draw in Paint Tool SAI and I use PS only for editing, effects etc.
What attracted you to Star Wars?
Actually my sister brought me into the SW fandom when she took me to the cinema to watch the episode 1. As a kid I didn’t really like the movies, I was afraid of Jabba’s palace. Today it’s my favorit part of the original trilogy. I love mostly the stories, the characters, the many species, the endless universe where everything is possible. At first I also was with the Jedi as most of the people, but when the 2th movie came out I fell in love with the clones and the Fetts, and then the Mandalorians and the bounty hunters. So they are my main theme in my drawings and writings (I write only in my native language).
Rayn explains about Aira on her deviantART page:
Well, she’s a lonagh-whanian. They are long life humans (they live circa 200 years) and they have pointy ears. What’s the funniest part of this? Because I realized that Sephi are extinct after I created her and her fan made planet. Yeah it sucks. I always do this. My clone legion has green marked armors, they are the 44th, then I met with the 41th with green marked armors. I named them Wolf Pack, then I met with commander Wolffe and his legion. Stupid EU and CW and etc. You cannot make something really original because someone did it before (or after) you. It’s not fair… But at least I always have some difference from the “original”. If I create something I’m working out every little piece of that new thing, so I can call it “mine”.
Do you have any plans for Star Wars: The Old Republic?
Hm I didn’t think about it yet, I’m not a gamer type, I’m the one who always dies first …
Do you do commission work?
I’m about to start doing commissions, but I don’t have a detailed price list yet. But if someone is interested you can write me a note at deviantART.
Do you have a favourite among your images?
Huh it’s a hard question. I don’t really like my own pics maybe just for a few hours, but most of the time I start to hate them, when I just finished them… But if I have to choose, maybe this one: ’You Little…’ My specialities are the little goofy moments of life (especially about these two), and I like to make fun of the characters in a cute way. I love the feeling of this piece, the theme, the little story, and the drawings are also tolerable.
Will we be seeing any SWTOR art from you?
If I know more about it, it’s not impossible. I want to know more and more, only just a year ago I went deeply into the Star Wars fandom, and I have yet to learn many things about this huge universe of SW.
What is your advice to a young artist starting out who wants to draw Star Wars art professionally?
Well, by personal experience I would say, take a deep breath and do what you can! I didn’t draw SW before because I was like “Ah I can’t do it… Sci-fi and armors are too difficult for me…” But then I decided that I want to draw SW characters and started to practice, and I never thought, but I enjoy to learn to draw armor, helmets, etc, what I was afraid to draw before. I think the most important thing is the will.
Anything you would like to add?
Ke barjurir gar’ade, jagyc’ade kot’la a dalyc’ade kotla’shya. – “Train your sons to be strong but your daughters to be stronger.”
Also
I think I’m way not good enough compared with the previous artists in the series, but I’m really honored, thank you so much for this interview!
Thank you for sharing your art and your thoughts with us here at TORWars, Rayn! I hope we will see you back again some day but in the mean time I wish you much joy and inspiration with your art!
If you wish to see more of Rayn’s artworks you can visit her gallery at deviantART. Leave a few ‘faves’ it will brighten up her day!

Detail of 'Mandalorian Romance takes Time' by Rayn. My favourite but it was too long to post here so please click the image for the whole strip!
