Star Wars Vagabond Promotional Poster

Last summer I had the good fortune to interview the talented brothers behind Twynsunz, Matt and Mick Glebe on their Star Wars art for That’s No Moon and I was impressed both by their abundance of talent and energy, as well as the candid and unfeigned quality of their character portraits. Now I haven’t had a chance to read ‘Vagabond’ yet, as Mick and Matt are playing their Pazaak cards close to their vests but I’m expecting their gorgeous and vivid colours as well as a heart-rending or even a chilling tale of Vader and his:

“…Twisted psychological battle…”

Where we will get to:

“…experience a deeper look into the workings of the galaxy’s greatest hero and darkest tyrant…”

I would say that makes for a couple of promising statements as to what dark paths this story will tread!

I love it when a Star Wars story goes down dark, foreboding paths.

As you may have come to expect, in return for giving me this nice heads up on their upcoming free comic event, I immediately dogged poor Matt and Mick with questions. Mostly I wanted to know what this was all about and how they got started on the project. Well… you can’t expect to give me a tasty promotional poster like that one up there and say ‘You’ll know more on the 11th!’ and not have me explode in questions! Thankfully dear Mick and Matt relented and gave e a few more hints to toy with:

Back in June of 2011, we began writing a script for our story, with two main forces driving this narrative: Obi-Wan’s perspective in Star Wars A New Hope and a word. The word ‘vagabond’ means “wanderer”; through the prequel films Vader is depicted as a tragic hero trying to find his place in the universe. We had an idea for exploring Darth Vader’s psyche, and how Anakin/Vader develops a very dark and twisted view on life. In Star Wars A New Hope Obi-Wan Kenobi views Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker as two separate entities, thus we decided to expand on this perspective. After completing the script, we began illustrating the imagery to bring the story to life, which took approximately two weeks to complete. And after a little contemplation, we decided it would be very exciting to share this vision with everyone in the Star Wars community!

Oh my my this here Anakin guy!
