Community Q&A: Turn Off Helms On Companions, GTN Love, Seasonals And Removable PVP Set Modifications

Friday was always our information day in the Star Wars: The Old Republic community and it still is with the weekly Q&A’s on the forums where you can ask the devs all your most burning questions.

Just as last week there is a ton of juicy tidbits again with some 12 questions the SWTOR development team was able to answer at this moment. I know many of you will rejoice with me as Lead Systems Designer Damion Schubert assures us that they know the Galactic Trade Network needs some love and it  is being worked on!

Forum poster Bobonar asks a question dear to my heart as I put together this sweet modifiable set for my Trooper girl but now she has four pieces of Champion gear she wears instead.

Bobonar: Will we be able to take the modifications out of our endgame pvp-sets and put them into a set that we like better (design-wise) and keep the bonuses?

Emmanuel Lusinchi: Yes, the set bonus will be carried by Armoring mods that work just like regular mods except that they only fit into specific types of items, such as chest items or boots items. So, for example, the set bonus from a chest piece can be moved to another chest piece, and the set bonus from a helmet can be moved to another helmet.

Basra in her Commando Elite Prototype Gear. How else do you get Trooper armor to look like stockings?

Another cosmetic issue I have had, is the companion headgear always showing. You can’t use the preview option, when you stumble onto new companion customizations without first summoning the companion and removing his or her helmet so you can actually see what the customization looks like. In some dialogue scenes the helmet is showing and not in others (thankfully I have yet to encounter a kiss-the-helmet scene!). And finally there is the issue for those of us with companions like Aric or Zenith who look most unfortunate in pretty much any headgear. Well Damion Schubert brings us hope with his answer to this question:

Relayinabox: Are there any plans for a show/hide companion headgear option?

Damion Schubert: Yep, we have plans. It won’t be in Game Update 1.2, but is currently in the works.

So we won’t see this next month but it is on its way!

And finally Lead Writer Daniel Erickson made my little MMO heart skip a beat with joy, by promising us seasonal events in the future! As an old EQ2 hand I have to say my expectations are pretty high maybe even unfairly so but after years of That-MMO-With-The-Orcs showing us that seasonal events consists of doing the same mind-numbing stuff as last year for the same measly rewards I would like to get back to seasonal MMO events being the big buzz in the guilds.

DarthBelkar: Can we look forward to server-wide special seasonal / short-term events?

Daniel Erickson: Yes! Expect them to fit into the world and setting, involve a fair bit of discovery, and offer special rewards that will be there one day and then gone forever. And expect them soon.

Visit the SWTOR forums for the full list of questions and answers and be sure to also stop by next week’s thread which has been opened for your own questions.

BioWare sure does impress me sometimes. They have adressed many issues in a very quick manner. Patch 1.2 is sounding HUGE.

  2. Notro says:

A lot of the things mentioned here won’t be in 1.2

  3. Vexien says:

    You definitely missed the most important update;

NiklasWB: When will you make it possible for Force-using characters to pull up/down their hoods on their robes?

Damion Schubert: This is in the works now. It won’t be in Game Update 1.2, but should get done in the next major update after that. And yes, we will extend this functionality to your Force-slinging companions as well.

    • Hi Vexien

I didn’t miss that answer, I chose not to mention it, trusting that people would be interested enough in the tidbits I did mention, which were near and dear to me, to go read the whole thing themselves. :)

  4. [...] bug-eyed type helmet or the lack of variation in the current BH PvP gear. However, BioWare has recently indicated they will be adding an option to remove mods from the PvP gear to be used on other gear [...]
