Merchandising has been a big deal when it comes to Star Wars. There’s toys, cups, costumes, lightsaber’s and Star Tours. But, never have I seen merchandising in the form of food, which is why I’m happy that TORWars reader, Samshirou, sent in some burger pics from his adventures with French fast food chain, Quick. Quick is pretty well known for their use of food for promotional purposes and this is not the only time they landed themselves in the media.
In February 2010 the chain decided to serve only halal meat in eight restaurants, sparking criticism from politicians that its menu discriminates against non-Muslims.
And in November 2010, Quick said it intended to offer foie gras ‘burgers’ at bargain prices as a treat for customers ahead of Christmas. Quick burger’s ‘Supreme Foie Gras’ consisted of the normally expensive duck foie gras, beef, relish and lettuce and go on sale for only 5 euros ($6.57) at more than 350 outlets across France. Samshirou went to Quick, and purchased a couple of their Star Wars themed hamburgers. The first was the Sith inspired Dark Burger which dons a peppery bun and actually looks quite edible.

What every good Sith wants for lunch.

I think the implication here is that Sith are peppery, but I'm not quite sure.
The second burger Samy chose was the Jedi burger and truth be told, it looks plain. I could probably eat it, but just seeing Yoda’s face on the box and then comparing it to the appearance of the burger, I’m not sure I would because it looks like Yoda meat.

The Jedi burger. The fact that it has the well-known deceased Master Yoda is...disturbing.

The Jedi burger looks....plain.
I have heard word of a Darth Vader burger which is housed in a black bun, but Samshirou didn’t send us pics of one of those and to be honest I don’t blame him. I don’t think I’d have to stomach to order one of those myself, even for a picture.
Of the three promotional burgers, the one getting the most buzz is the one that’s gone over to the dark side — literally. It’s named the “Dark Vador Burger” (it’s unclear why the reference to Darth Vader is spelled incorrectly — rights issues, perhaps?) and comes complete with a black bun. We’re not talking any natural color derived from dark-hued grains — the bun is actually a deep black, presumably artificial color, which matches perfectly with the outer-space background in the Quick advertisement. Thank you Samshirou for the submission and more for the guts to order mysterious Star Wars food stuffs. You rock! Cheers!
