Jedi Knight Weekly: Preparing To Look The Way You Want

Good day, TORWarriors! Considering that relatively shortly you’ll be able to remove the mods from the best gear in game, it’s time for a write up on getting the gear you actually want in preparation for the incoming big patch!

For most Jedi Knights, the Ven Zallow look is the ultimate. He’s the bad ass you see on your loading screen – the bad ass that duelled with Malgus in the Jedi Temple before it was reduced to rubble. In case you didn’t know what armor set he’s wearing; it’s the Jedi Battlelord set. And it’s not easy to get hold of.

Just another day in the life of a Knight

But, scrounge around enough you’ll hopefully find a seller, or even get the set yourself. It’s rare you’ll see it on the GTN as it’s usually quickly snapped up by another hopeful Jedi Battlelord. But, that’s why I’m sharing this information with you now, so you’ve got time before the big update comes!

The Rakata/Columi set is kind of nice – but it soon loses its appeal when 95% of the Knights you ever see are wearing it. The Jedi Battlelord set is fairly coveted – and quite unique. But there’s a few sets that you might be interested in. For example, the PvP Knight sets aren’t that bad. And I really like the Battlemaster Weaponmaster chest, and with the update I’ll certainly buy it and put in tank mods over the DPS ones.

But it doesn’t stop there. Any armor that you liked when you were levelling (if you saved it and it is moddable) will be usable at level 50. This will allow you to look exactly how you want… which leads us onto the tip of the week!

"I only wanted to play catch!"

Tip of the week: Currently, a few people are opting for disguises in their armor sets. For example, you might see Commandos running around with Jedi robes on and vice versa. With this coming update you’ll be able to take the expertise mods out of PvP armor and put it into any moddable armor. This can allow us Knights to wander around in armor that hides our mobility and combat prowess. In PvP a glance is sometimes all people can spare, which means judging what class the enemy is by what armor they’re wearing as each armor set has their own class specific style.

This means us Knights can strut around in smuggler gear giving the idea that we have low armor and are, therefore, worthwhile targets to attack. Which means we can lure people into an attack they will soon regret! ;)

Does this mean knights can go around looking like consulars?

Unless they’ve changed their stance, gear TYPE (medium, light, heavy) is still “hard-coded” into the item, so if a Vanguard were to run around trying to look like a Sage they would indeed take a huge armor penalty.

This also means that SI/JC classes will continue to have no options for gear outside their own class.

You have it backwards. JC/SI have the *most* available armor variety, with every social set open to them. These are useless for other classes.

I have a light-sided inquisitor. What I’m really hoping for is white robes and a red saber. A guy can dream can’t he?

Although, I might just roll a knight now because that battlelord is probably the coolest armor set in the game.

How about a chest piece that doesnt have a hood up? I dont even remember what my hair looks like. Seriously, I am at a loss for hoodless robes, or shirts or whatever so I can see my hair and face again.

Unless you need tanking stats as a Sent/Marauder this would not be smart. As some other posters have mentioned changing the armoring slot doesn’t change medium armor to heavy armor. Armor Mods have a “rating” on them, which scales to the type of armor it has. Same for hilts and barrels, Assault Cannons have more damage than Blaster Rifles with the same Barrel mod, and Heavy armor has more armor than Light Armor with the same Armomr Mod.

Troopers get away with trading for jedi armor and such because they can find heavy armor for both. Sent/Marauders COULD wear smuggler gear with mod switches. Consular’s can’t even equip Knight gear, and Knights would lose a lot of armor if wearing Consular gear.
