SWTOR: New “State Of The Game” Blog Post From Jeff Hickman

The new year rings in with news from Executive Producer, Jeff Hickman about our beloved Star Wars: The Old Republic.  There are lots of things that we’ve all been asking for on the horizon as Jeff states in his newest State Of The Game blog post.

This is not Jeff (because this guy actually has a twitter account and name). Jeff will someday be this guy though, once he of course gets a twitter account.

“Yippeeeeee! New stuff to look forward to!!!!

As you can probably imagine, the launch of the Free-to-Play option with our new Cartel Market has been an amazing event for our game. The game is incredibly healthy with an ever increasing number of players who are actively playing (the servers are rocking!). Having said that, we know we haven’t gotten everything perfect, and we are still working hard to make The Old Republic everything you guys desire. More than anything we wanted to get folks back in and playing the game, and bring back the excitement and camaraderie – we feel like we’ve made great strides over the last 6 months towards these goals. All signs point to a very bright future for our game!

As always we here at TORWars HQ are excited to hear that there’s more coming to us in the future and most importantly that the devs understand that many things need perfecting before moving on to other in-game projects.  Jeff takes us on a journey of sorts by openly discussing hot topics that revolve around SWTOR and its player-base including but not limited to:

  • ● Elder game
  • ● World PvP
  • ● Character Copy to PTS

Jeff goes on to talk about SGR’s which has been an extremely hot topic on both the forums and social networking sites lately. We’ve even had some interesting discussions here at TORWars about said subject, but here’s what Jeff has to say:

Secondly, I want to reveal today that we are adding SGR with some NPCs on Makeb and do intend on pursuing more SGR options in the future. More details to come!

Whew! I think we got through this State of the Game pretty well. The team and I will continue to scan the forums, read the boards, and listen to feedback. We’re dedicated to giving you the game that YOU want to play and are making changes and improvements at a rapid pace to keep up with your desires. Please keep posting and keep talking about The Old Republic. Together we will continue to care for and expand this fantastic game.

Overall there’s tons to look forward to and tons that the folks over at BioWare Austin are working on, as we speak.  Thanks Jeff for keeping us updated.

Please read the details in the full article here.  Also, as always, let us know your thoughts on all things SWTOR in the comments section below. Cheers!

Interesting that Torwars left out that. SGR will not be with companions in the Makeb Expansion. It seems the priority was dumped for further down the road due to going f2p. So SGR is in, and SGRA is out for the time being. I think both portions of information are important instead of only reporting the positive.

    • Diggit says:

LOL What did they leave out???
The Quote says “we are adding SGR with some NPCs on Makeb”.

Read it said NPCS that means non player character.

The Companion is always referred to as a Companion.

Not sure how you missed that. Torwars is giving you the facts not only the positive stuff. But they aren’t and shouldn’t rip Bio-Wear on not getting SGR with our Companions.

I look at it this way Bio-EA isn’t going to dedicate a ton of resources into SGR’s until they see if the majority wants this.
A lot of players don’t post. So how do they really know this wont turn some away.

So they are dipping there toes into the water and see if its warm enough to swim. Plus this must be something they can do on the fly.
      In time for the spring.

Hey they could say oh why bother at all.
So you should be happy some forum of SGR’s are coming at all and be sure to tell Bio-EA what you think. My guess is later when they do more companion ACTS we might see SGR’s if these are warmly received.

Torwars has always given us the facts its not their fault if you don’t like FACTS.

From what (sparse) information has been given, they probably already have been putting significant work into it, albeit very slowly. It’s possible that some of the early steps were even done pre-launch before it got lost in the mix of scheduling/budget/whatever.

    • Jae Onasi says:

My guess is that it would require far too much expense in terms of voice-acting and re-coding conversations to add SGR into the main game. I think adding it to the expansion is a good alternative.

I dearly hope they get world PvP going again. There is so much potential there to give people something to do besides repeating the same Operations or WZs repeatedly.

      • Afrogoth says:

^I definitely agree. The first few weeks of constant warring on Tat and then again on Illum were the best surprises and magnets for player interaction that this game ever had. If there was more threat of fighting other players in the reg game, players would cling together more and the social aspect wouldn’t be as week as a gizka with a cold.

@DIGGIT: saying that there will be SGR isnt the same as saying there definitely wont be SGRA with existing companions with the Makeb expansion, as has been promised since game launch. It appears that they stopped their work on that aspect months ago and are only using what they were able to get done well before the announcement of F2P. I think that is at least as important news as the fact that there will be SOME SGR options with NPC’s in the Makeb Expansion, never mind the fact that you’ll never talk to them again once your mission is complete.

I’m mostly curious about these ‘alternative ways to play the elder game’ that they’re teasing. I’m assuming that the expansion will come with (or be quickly followed by) at least one WZ and one Op. That’s fine. I’ve never been able to get into an Op so I dont really care about them so much until they make beginning Operations more accessible to players new to endgame. But I respect that there are a handful of loyal players who do enjoy it so I wont complain about that. But “alternative ways of enjoying endgame” certainly sparks my interest. I’m sure it’s not Pazaak, or Sabaac which would have both been awesome, so what is it that they mean, I wonder? Pod-races? Krayt Dragon Taming? Sieging enemy bases? New “systems” like Legacy? I probably shouldn’t wonder since I’m bound to just be ultimately disappointed, just like everything else with this game with the exception of “story” and WZ’s.

That’s cool he mentioned SGR. It’s almost like he was listening to the podcast!!!!! OMG!

  3. V.S. says:

Don’t care about romance (both hetero and gay fyi).

But I hope they’ll at least stop QQing and popping 10 threads a day about it, and we can finally move on to less Sims and more Star Wars content.

  4. Blinkwise says:

I don’t know Brian, R2D2 spends alot of time in the movies “connecting” to other computer systems. It must be an open relationship

    • The_Dark_Lord says:

Given the references to code cracking, though, I don’t think all of those other computers were consenting.

…Dangit, I think I just ruined my own childhood with that one. >.<

  5. Miah says:

Even though SGRs will be included for NPCs, I was hoping it was far enough along that companion arcs would finally be available. However, at this point I will gladly take it until the rest can be added. I’m extremely happy to see that old promises and continued support from our community has ensured SGRs!

I’m also happy to hear that copies to the PTS will be coming shortly. I was lucky enough to have one of my 50s copied over around 1.3, however I can’t test any of the more difficult changes due to the fact that I don’t have time to regrind the better gear I have on my live server.

And finally, Ilum! How I’ve missed going there for anything other than dailies. I can’t wait to see what they will do there.
