Additional Information on New Character Slot Additions

With the announcement that you can now purchase additional character slots, questions arose if these purchases were only for free or preferred players or if subscribers would be able to take advantage of them as well.

Global Online Community Manager, Joveth Gonzalez was kind enough to give me a few more details via Twitter and the forums.  Subscribers can indeed purchase the character slots as well and are capped to how many additional character slots you may purchase per server, but the cap is “really high”.

Hey folks! Here to clear things up a bit, the patch note is meant to let folks know that the standard character slot restrictions are now being enforced. In ADDITION to this, you may now purchase additional character slots to your heart’s content. There is a limit, but it is very, very high and you will probably not reach it. So, if you are a subscriber and want to go beyond your 12 slots, by all means!

Information on this continues to evolve.,  A commenter here on TORWars mentioned that they seemed to hit a cap of 22 character slots on an individual server.  I reached out to Joveth and he responded to me on twitter saying the following:

Getting the intel yo!

Getting the intel yo!

As subscribers now have 12 character slots per server and a global cap of 350 characters with the changes in 1.6.2, the purchasable character slots will increase each of your slots per server by one at a price of 600 cartel coins each up to a total of 22 per server it seems.  Each purchase of character slots is account wide so, for example, if you are a subscriber on The Shadowlands and purchase an extra character slot, you will have 13 slots on all servers, not just The Shadowlands.  Very cool!

Thanks to Joveth for clearing this up with us so quickly!  How many new alts will you be rolling, TORWarriors?  Hundreds of new Darth Sunshine Sith Inquisitors?

Pretty sure there can only be one Darth Sunshine.

Good info to have. It’s likely, I would have hit that 22 character limit eventually, I had 18 on one server after the merges, but now I can plan for it. Thanks!

Note that, it wasn’t explicitly mentioned here, but IIRC if you already have more than 12 characters on one server, you still have to buy the slots for them and then one additional before you can roll a new character there.

Here’s something that’s been bothering me since reading the patch notes that I haven’t seen addressed. From the patch notes:

    General
Character slot restrictions are now being enforced:

By default, Free-to-Play players are restricted to 2 characters per server.
By default, Preferred Status players are restricted to 6 characters per server.
By default, Subscribers are limited to 12 Characters per servers.

All players have a Global Active Character Limit of 350 Characters.

The patch notes state that F2P and Preferred players are restricted to 2 and 6 characters PER SERVER. This isn’t how the game works right now. Right now, F2P and Preferred have 2 or 6 characters per GAME, its a total across all servers.

So, was this a typo (or Bioware not really aware of how their own game works), or is this a case that F2P and Preferred players are gaining the PER SERVER allotment, which is fantastic for them.
