BioWare posted two new screenshots on their Facebook page today showcasing new looks coming from gear obtained from the new Gree events in Game Update 1.7.
Possible Bounty Hunter or Smuggler Set?
While no information was given on how these armor sets will be obtained, one begins to wonder if this will be through the events or the new reputation system or possibly both.

These looks are very different from the usual gear sets we have seen in game so far but seem very in line with the look of Gree technology that we have seen in places like Terror From Beyond. What do you think of the new looks? Excited? Let us know in the comments!

They’re cool, but they are just re-skinned versions of existing models.
I REALLY hope we start to see some new styles in 1.7 and into the new expansion, because SWTOR is fraught with some of the UGLIEST armor I have ever seen in an MMO. The gunslinger pimp’s fur coat, the inquisitor’s cone-head helm, the agent’s Pepsi can belt. It’s OK to have some absurdity, like Karagga’s Helm, but many of the end-game armor sets are downright embarrassing.
Hopefully the Gree will bring with them some fashion trends from their end of the galaxy, because right now? Damn.
I suspect that the PTS is due to come online very soon. I was able to download a 2.25 GB patch today. The server itself is still offline. Based on previous statements from Bioware concerning the release of 1.7, I would not be surprised if it was brought up this Thursday or Friday, especially since they have not had any downtime in about 2 weeks now.
You know, for a second upon first seeing the “Tron Jedi” pic in my news feed, I thought it was a Champions Online screenshot. Definitely looks like something you’d see in that game.
Starting to get concerned that swtor is forgetting that it’s meant to be Star Wars and that wonderful, dystopian “used universe” atmosphere and gonna become generic sci-fi.
Not necessarily. That dystopian thing is just the last 3 movies after the empire took over. Look at the first 3 movies to see looks more in like this this game as it takes place before the battle of yavin
They are not sooo different. The helmet is an existing agent helmet. Just made tron style by changing the color to black and cyan.
I believe both pics to be of the same armor in different lighting. It was pictured in the first 1.7 teaser, along with a black and red version of the same armor.
I wonder what will happen with color matching, could be VERY interesting. Unless, it trumps CM like a few other pieces do.
I know what you’re saying, absolutely and I take that into consideration. Even the first three episodes, the galaxy has a lived in feel. IIRC I thought there was something about tech being stifled by the Jedi thousands of years ago, or along those lines. But TFB and Tron and portals from another dimension is just sci-fi, not Star Wars. Heh, it’s more Bab5, really. But not Star Wars.
I like the different looks, but I also wouldnt mind some more traditional looks as well.
While I like the concept of the luminescent armor, it’s still the same re-skinned garbage we’ve been dealing with since launch.
Maybe I’m being irrational as this is the first MMO I’ve ever played (apologies if I am), but 14+ months of wearing cowboy hats and cybernetic Rakata skulls as primary campaign and PVP armor is getting astonishingly old. Featuring the “new” Gree armor under the same concept is just plain laughable. That’s like Earth being visited by a hyper advanced alien race who’s gift to us is a pair of blue jeans which glow in the dark.
This could have been a huge opportunity for EA/BW to feature new armor designs. Ones which could be re-skinned over the next year or so like the batch of clothing we’re currently working with. It would be a much needed and welcomed change of pace.
Couldn’t agree more. This is not my first MMO, or even my 2nd or 3rd, but I have been disappointed with the lack of originality and style with many of the armor sets in SWTOR. What’s sad is that from an appearance perspective, I’ve come across green and blue armor while leveling that looks very cool, but there’s no moddable orange or purple equivalent for end-game use.
As to some others’ comments that some of these aren’t very “Star Wars-y”, I think they’re looking through the narrow lens that is the original trilogy and not the expanded universe or even the first 3 films, where there’s an abundance of styles and designs. And not just costumes, but architecture, etc. I just want to see more variety–not the same 4 or 5 environments over and over, or more armor that looks like it was designed by some 60′s disco king.
I’m ok with the “Tron” look – it does go with the look/feel of TFB.
I agree with everyone else though, can we get some variety in here, and not just reskins?!?
Looks like it’s going to be adaptive armor, since it’s the same in both pics but one shows a lightsaber and the other a blaster. Reputation rewards are a definite possibility, since I don’t think I’ve seen anything Tron-like on the fleet yet.
So Makeb has already been in the works, but BW seriously needs to stop reskinning the same damn things over and over. Haven’t they made enough money with with microtransactions to hire a couple artists back? Honestly, next to paid character transfers this is the 2nd biggest issue imho.

Sure it may look like Gree technology, all well and good.. But Gree technology does’nt look very Star Warsy, sadly the poster above is spot on, looks like a Tron homage from Champions Online.

Surprised to see the responses here about people not liking the look. Just goes to show you that all art is subjective. Some love it, some hate it. I think its pretty cool. I might wear pieces of it on certain chars, but depends which.
I tend to keep my jedi/sith looking very traditional. My BH as well. That being said, i like some of the different looks for my companion. I like the direction these are going with the glow effects.
i came into this article being rather excited, and bioware managed to hit a new level of underwhelming,i really didn’t want to look like a walking lightbulb
Like you Brian, I keep my characters traditional in appearance.
I feel it is just another step in the wrong direction, we have seen so many complaints about how ‘out there’ the Ops (Dreadguard/Hazmat) gear from the community in the past and then this Tronesque gear surfaces.
There seems to be a dissasociation between the styles of artwork in arms and armour, some are right on the money exuding a very Star Warsy iconic look, but when artistic license takes over, it seems that the item does not evolve the Star Wars feel but seems to leave it light years behind…
Just my personal opinion, based on observation.

All gear is just looks. I am grateful that I can change the way my character looks. This just ads options to be unique. If you don’t like it great let the people who do wear it and you stay traditional. Now lets just tackle he problem of why my Bounty Hunter cannot use a blaster rifle.
