Could this be the next member of the Hollis family?!

Could this be the next member of the Hollis family?!

Here is what we talked about this episode!

Discussion Topics Of The Week

1.) Tauntaun mounts coming to SWTOR?

Posted by NathanEmmott

Howdy everyone! I wanted to pop in here and let everyone know that we are very much reading y’all’s suggestions (and the ensuing debates ). I figured the Animal Mounts discussion would be a good one to jump in and let you know that creature mounts are something we have wanted for quite some time now. Now, obviously I can’t tell you anything concrete yet – mostly because there isn’t anything concrete yet – but I can tell you that Hoth doesn’t feel right without being able to ride a tauntaun.

2.) Listener Question
Hi there and thanks for such a great show. I wanted to ask what all of you thought about adding customization to our starships. In particular I was wondering about the option (as a legacy unlock or though the cartel market) to replace our default class ship with that of another class. Since all ships have the same features it seems like an easy way for Bioware to make some extra money using existing art assets. It would also open up future content to retrieve something like the Ebon Hawk similar to the way HK-51 was added to the game. It wouldn’t be game changing but it would add just a little more customization to the game.

All my best!

Because not all of us follow those social networking sites and your ideas will get lost in the clutter.  If that’s the kind of anonymity you prefer, then so be it, but let it be said, TORWars doesn’t censor our posts and all ideas and comments are welcomed here so why not take advantage.  Also, we want everyone to be able to participate in reading your great ideas.  So, please place them in the comments section below so we can throw parties, drink beer and eat pie over our favorite ones.  Kthxbai!

  1. James says:

I agree with Brian on the starships and i won’t pay for a tauntan but if it was a quest (involving a wompa boss?) i’d do it. Everyone enjoying the Gree Event? I wasn’t around for the first two and i think this event is pretty cool. Looking forward to getting my tron armor.

Good show and i hope the baby and mommy are healthy!

  2. Nibbon says:

    Hey all, Nibbon here!

Happy to answer any questions about DreadTooth, Dread Entity, the orb, or Carnage Gaming you have. I’ll check back in regularly.

Big thanks to Brian and the Torwars team for featuring us like this!

    Excellent podcast as always :)
Oh and DD – had to throw in a little help for when little one arrives ;-)

  4. Darth Cheeseburger says:

Is Brian going to do an opinion thing about completely unreasonable new repair costs which make raiding unfeasible and the fact that the Devs still haven’t commented on it?
Lots of people are ready to quit over this issue.

    • Brian Waggoner says:

I dont know. Apparently it was a fix. It was in the patch notes. Hard to question that. Im not sure it was a good fix, but not much to say other than that.

An article about people being mad they have to pay more in repair costs isnt that compelling, tbh. And if people are willing to quit the game over that, im not sure anything will make them happy.

      • Darth Cheeseburger says:

Yeh, I realized afterwards it would have to just be a rant. But people do like rants…
If it was a small increase in repair costs it would be OK but for 61s and 63s gear it tripled them.

      • Joe says:

I think there might be case for saying that it was always broken and this “fix” merely highlights something which was previously not very obvious.

I can’t speak to whether the economy is broken, whether repair bills should or should not be at the new levels. I simply don’t understand the balancing act of inflation within a virtual environment enough.

What I can speak to is the number of players I know who previously would log in for raiding or other “fun” stuff, knowing that they were going to stay relatively revenue neutral. Instead, we’re looking at our repair bills each time we pop a repair droid or at the end of the night and recoiling in shocked horror.

This week won’t be an issue, but now the credits trend is downwards whilst raiding. That means we’re needing to look where those extra repair costs are going to come from and seeing only repetitive time sinks or lottery style real cash payments. The former we might have enjoyed for a while, but ultimately became a grind and the latter a blatant cash grab. Neither of which are attractive to us compare with the extended period while repair costs were “broken”.

People I speak to aren’t reacting with “yay! I get to do dailys again” – entirely the opposite. And that feeling of being pushed into spending time which is no longer a fun experience is ultimately where my concerns lie.

        If you don’t like PvP… don’t PvP.
If you don’t like Space Missions… don’t do them.
If you don’t like raiding… then don’t raid.
If you don’t appreciate grouping with random people… don’t use groupfinder.
And if you don’t like doing dailys… don’t do them either.

But is that last one still true for raiders who regularly wipe?

All that said, I also know players who have silly quantities of credits. But repair bills seem a fairly blunt tool that probably will do little to address that.

Maybe daily quests should still be fun the 205th time through. Maybe people need to spend some of their free time doing stuff they don’t enjoy. I wish I knew.

        • Gagota says:

Farming money has never been fun, no matter how you twist and bend it. it wasn’t fun in WoW and it isn’t fun in TOR. If you dont wanna do dailies, your alterative is to RE some rare mods or items with cybertech or what ever and sell them for say, mats + 500.000 credits each. I paid mats + 200.000 for my implants, each.. so mats + 400K, because this guy/girl was the only person on the server that could make the implants I wanted, so he/she could charge, pretty much what ever he/she wants. So the answer to your question is no, you have no choice… do dailies for cash or you dont do ops… this is true for most people.

  5. Ilmarinen says:

where did you find a pic of an infant James Earl Jones?

  6. Knighthammer says:

I’d like rideable (ie Tauntaun/Dewback) style mounts, that would be really cool and what more could be Star Wars then that?

However I would have to say “meh” to the idea of a new starship – I would rather be able to customize the one I have vs. a new one.

    My 2-cents worth.

  7. obie says:

Regarding adding purchasable ships I’d also like to add this:

I’m a programmer and something that wasn’t touched upon by the panel was that not only would you have to re-create all of the on-ship cutscenes for all of the classes (a fairly hefty project in its own right as it’s 8 classes * 8 ships * X cutscenes per class) but you’d also have to rip out the code that launches those cutscenes and create a bunch of code that can update which internal view to use and thus which cutscenes to show for the class. Quite often when doing this kind of thing, as the original code probably hasn’t been written with this kind of modularity in mind (talking reality rather than best practice here), there will be a cascade of systems that have to be updated and debugged, the fallout from which might be felt for months after the patch goes live.

When Bioware say that the amount of work for this outweighs the benefits, they are understating it by a metric mile.

  8. bk says:

i like the idea of getting a new ship sometime at 50+
Everything pre-50 is best left alone. So consider it is what it is as part of the leveling up to 50 story.

It would be pretty awesome if they introduced one or two of the “epic” quest stories per year like they did with HK. For new companions, new star ships, even if you had to do an epic quest to open up access to a new daily area.

Guest interview was a nice breath of fresh air to the podcast. keep em’ coming!
    :)

  9. Rinth says:

Thanks so much for discussing the suggestion I sent in!

After listening to the podcast on my way to work this morning I have a few comments I would like to follow up with. So, as Brian mentioned and Obie detailed above the cutscenes on board would probably be prohibitive. However, if the option to purchase/unlock a different ship existed at the end of the class story (level 48-50) I think it still has some merrit – In particular for new content that would let the player replace their ship with one of the legendary Dynamic-class freighters like the Ebon Hawk.

To me the ship is a very personal thing. I guess this takes me back to playing Traveller in the early 80′s when I was in high school. I spent way to many hours designing ships trying to get it just right.

  10. Mirin says:

@ Carnage Gaming in regards to “competition”. Really…Stoic better than TGO? LOL

I think we proved that with out 1shot full clear of HM TFB 16man server first, if we wanted to, we could be “better” than anyone in 16man. The main reason we don’t do 16man is because currently there is no point, the rewards are equal.

EC NM isn’t a new op, its the same thing we did for, what, 5/6 months while we waited for TFB. We didn’t “give-up” we are just all bored of EC.

The Gauntlet has been thrown my friend, lets see who catches it.

    • Nibbon says:

I did not say that Stoic was better than TGO, I’m not sure how you inferred that. That is an extremely difficult and somewhat uncomfortable question to answer, especially when there isn’t really an answer. We consider competition 16 man NiM, neither guild was doing 16 man up until a couple weeks ago when Stoic slowly began raiding in 16 man again (TGO still doesn’t, to my knowledge).

We are currently the only guild that has completed EC NiM 16 man – in fact we are the only ones who have gotten past tanks in 16 man, there is absolutely no denying that. We share your opinion/distaste for EC – we hated “progressing” through it, but we did it because it presented a challenge we had yet to complete.

And yes, you did give up, no matter how you want to sugar coat it. You gave EC NiM 2-3 progression days in 16 man, I know this for a fact. You did not complete it and haven’t done it since – I consider that giving up.

TGO is the best 8 man raiding guild on The Shadowlands, I will not take that way from you and you guys really deserve it – you absolutely crushed it the past two tiers and I expect you to crush the next tier as well. I would greatly prefer if you did not twist my words for the sake of trolling.

  11. Darak C. says:

I would love to see the Taun Taun mounts, or dewbacks, or even Zeldrakes. The only thing I wouldn’t care for is to have giant mounts soo big that they crowd up the fleet even more…Bantha I’m lookin’ at you.

Oh, and I think you’re supposed to let your dog lick a wound/cut. Not sure about cats. I’m thinking their scratchy tongue is probably not a good thing on an open wound.
