In our first big developer post of the week, Phillip_BW announced that as a result of the changes being made on April 2nd from using email addresses to display names, there will be some new features coming to your Star Wars: The Old Republic account services page.

On April 2nd, we are changing some aspects of our Authentication system. In our first notification of the most visible of the changes on March 5th we were still waiting on the last few background systems to be confirmed as ready. Now that they are ready, today’s notification also includes those changes as well.
On April 2nd, the following changes are going live:
- Display Name only login
- Email Security Code replacing Security Questions and Answers during Authentication
- Self-service for Forgot my Display Name
Other changes we are aiming for within April, but not necessarily on April 2nd:
- Self-service for Lost my Security Key
- Self-service for Remove my Security Key
- Self-service for Move my Security Key

These are some very welcome tools for players to enhance account security and reduce the number of calls to BioWare’s Customer Service folks. Looking forward to seeing these new options for players! What do you all think? Leave a comment below!

I’m still waiting for the Security Key on Windows Phone 7.x
Finally… this really could have been implemented right along with the Security Key option itself at launch…
I’m looking forward to the key change functionality – I’ve been using my old cell phone for like 6-8 months because I didn’t want to call in (I’m lazy/it takes away from game time).
LOL! Me too! I’m using my previous phone as a glorified security key
Hooray, no more calling customer service and having them struggle with my Aussie accent. I said “A” not “E” ahhhhh
(apart from struggling to get my email across, they were otherwise impeccable though)
Thank god we’ll be able to remove/move the authenticator other than calling in. That’s frustrating.
Phillip_BW is rapidly becoming my favourite dev at Bioware
This is all good news, it will be great to know I can move my security key app to a new phone without having to sit on a call to customer services.
