This week we venture to the Corellian Run server to visit with a PVE guild of happy, rampant altoholics. Guild Leader Aya Solari shows us around her guild, Poetically Cryptic, which incidentally is a good guild to choose if you are planning on meeting your future spouse in game. Turns out that they can now boast of two couples who met in game and are now tying the knot.
Guild type: PVE.
Server: Corellian Run.
Empire or Republic? Poetically Cryptic (Republic) / Renegade (Empire).
Founded date: February 2010.
Guild leader(s) forum name: Aya Solari.
No. of Members: 7.
How did Poetically Cryptic get formed?
A fair few of us met in a clan dedicated to playing and having fun in Star Wars: Jedi Knight Academy, Renegade Clan. RGD moved into multiple games including Battlefield 2 and Guild Wars where we met a number of great folks, forged strong friendships and had numerous laughs. RGD fell in 2009 and we limped along under a number of different guild names I decided in 2010 to disband one of the oldest 1 person guilds in Guild Wars “Awesome And Win” and made “Poetically Cryptic” everyone came under one roof once again.
How did you pick the name?
Poetically Cryptic – Republic – Started out as a game/anime review website that died within 3 months of launching, became a guild name in 2010 to bring us all back together under one guild.
Renegade – Empire – we decided RGD had to come to SWTOR in some way, so when we were ready to make Empire characters and formed an Empire guild nostalgia hit us and Renegade was back.
How many members are you strong? How many are active?
We are home to 12 wonderful people although only 7 of which actually play Star Wars: The Old Republic.
What is unique about your guild?
We are all friends we are not here to own the game we are here to play and have fun.
What hours of the day is the guild most active?
Between 23:00 GMT and 03.00 GMT most weekdays weekend times are randomly put together when we all get online.
Tell us about your guild’s artwork and web design.
I do most artwork for the guild including web banners, signatures and logo’s, OasisX and Nariko serve as sounding boards for what looks good and what needs tweaked here and there. I can push out more than 20 images an hour when I get on a roll. The amount of times the website banner has changed is insane.
Keeping your guild site graphically fresh is no bad thing at all!
What is the most important piece of advice you would give to a new guild starting up?
Make sure you have an idea of what direction you want for your guild, have the rules website and vision ready before you recruit people make sure you have a strong team support.
What, in your opinion, are the most common reasons for a guild to break up and do you have plans to avoid that?
I think most guilds break apart due to members and leadership burning themselves out, the lack of motivation to play and replay the same content over and over again.
Poetically Cryptic tries to cater to what our members want, sometimes this means running into Guild Wars and having a dance party in Ascalon.
Here is a video that turned up from way back in the days of Renegade Clan in Star Wars: Jedi Knight Academy:
What was the toughest hurdle for you and your guild to get over in the time you’ve spent together?
Activity was a big issue for a while. We had people drop out of game completely when the server population problems started up, though that its all sorted out now. Only a few have returned, leaving us a little short handed, but we are slowly getting back to normal.
Are you looking for more members?
We are always on the lookout for new folks to join in the social madness, we enjoy our Mumble chats and anyone wishing to join should have a working microphone and a good sense of humour.
What is the level breakdown now in your guild?
Alt-oholics are rampant in the guild, we all love our alts but we like to level them together which takes a lot of time when you are trying to get 3-4 people together to level every night when folks have work and school to focus on makes it difficult but we enjoy the time we get together.
How is trade skilling and in guild trades handled?
You ask we deliver! We all help each other with the materials needed for crafting. Certain crafts are reserved to certain members who make any items required by guild mates. Eg Aya Solari Makes Artifice items, Nariko makes Synthweaving and everything is put in the guild bank for pick up.
When looking at prospective applicants and their applications, what is your pet peeve? Or what would you advise NOT to do?
We don’t want or need to know how elite you are or what armour you are wearing. We are interested in getting to know YOU the person, not the pixel Zabrak in the awesome tutu!
Do you do Operations? Where are you on that?
None yet but we are working together to get into operations within the next 2 months.
Have you decided on a loot division system?
Need > Greed, You may greed every item that your character you are currently playing can use, Not for companions or other alts unless decided otherwise by the group you are in.
What, if anything, do you consider griefing?
People stealing a spawn you need or taking a chest whilst you are killing the enemies around it, also taking advantage of bugs to gain the upper hand on your fellow players.
Do you PVP together in the guild?
Not at the moment a few of us partake in the occasional match but as a guild not yet, still trying to convert a few.
Guild amenities. What does your guild have to offer its members? Forum, Chat etc. How about a Vent or TS server?
We offer the use of our guild forums, the chat room and our Mumble server.
What new guild features would you like to see?
An in game Calendar Guild Mail and player housing would be awesome to see in game.
Amen to that!
Tell us about You. What draws you to SWTOR?
I have been looking in on the website daily since there was only a SWTOR logo sitting there teasing with the promise of great fun times ahead. I started my online gaming in Star Wars Jedi Knight Academy many of my guild mates are friends from that gaming era and returning to star wars and bringing the old crew back together is just awesome.
What class is your main?
My Main is a Jedi Sage Twi’lek, I mean who doesn’t love the lekku?
What made you decide to run a guild?
I have been in positions of leadership in a few different clans/guilds in the past I was initially against the idea of leading at all when we started this group up, but it was put to the vote and their reasoning was that it was my idea, so therefor I “had” to be the Guild Leader.
Can you share a cool or funny guild story with us?
Awesome guild stories eh? Well we have a 2 couples in our group who met through gaming together and whom are now planning on getting married, pretty amazing to say the least.
That IS pretty amazing and I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing your guildies much happiness!
Thank you Aya, for sharing Poetically Cryptic with us!
