Ladies and gentlemen after having our tour ship docked for a few weeks to get some maintenance done since the narrow escape from Nar Shaddaa, we are back in action to give you an up close look at the planets of Star Wars: The Old Republic. We will look at the best quests from a time and experience (XP) standpoint so you can blast through the planet and be on your way to your next adventure.
Be sure to bring your sunscreen and a droid that speaks Bocce, because this week we are off to sun-soaked Tatooine.
Luke once famously said, err, I guess he will famously say three thousand years from now, that “if there is a bright center to the universe, you are on the planet that it’s furthest from.” Well no wonder Uncle Owen thought he needed to stay home another year because Luke was terrible at Space Geography. By my count as I look up at the galaxy as shown by my Death Star Planetarium, Tatooine is at least the 67th planet that is furthest from the center of the universe. In fact there are even planets in his own sector of space that are further away. And Luke thought he was going to get into the Academy, sorry bud they don’t let backwater hicks that don’t know their space maps into flight school. This just goes to show, stay in school kids so you don’t end up like Luke.
Enough of that though, let’s press on!
Tatooine will be a nice nostalgic feeling for all Star Wars fans, and for many of you out there this will feel like a homecoming. So, enjoy your time lounging in the sand, running from Tusken Raiders, and bartering with Jawa’s; our course is set for Tatooine.
I completed this world in under three hours, running on full rested experience (XP) with a 10% guild increase and a 25% consumable XP boost. I did the following “Can’t Miss” and “Recommended” quests as well as two of the heroics.
The bulk of quests for the Anchorhead area can be found in the cantina so make that your first stop before you start running around and completing the first missions you get. If you want to take some time and get a good drink, tell the bartender that Neph sent you and he will whip you up the best Reactor Core you will have this side of the Perlemian Trade Route.
Timely Arrival – This is the first quest you will encounter as you exit the spaceport and it will start the main story quest for the planet. It does treat you to a nice cut scene but further on down the line there is a lot of running around involved so if you have already seen it once then I would skip it. (Conditional)
Smuggler’s Routes – This will be the most running you will do in Anchorhead but overall it is not too bad since Anchorhead is a pretty small place. (Recommended)
Astromenace – A quick trip north out of the city once you have dealt with this problem is the only thing standing between you and easy exp. (Can’t Miss)
The Hunted – One of the fastest quests in the galaxy, and you get to kill bad guys. Always fun. (Can’t Miss)
Timely Arrival – As I mentioned before, to turn this in you have to go all the way back to Anchorhead but the next stage doubles up nicely with a nice area quest however, so, if your class quest is taking you north and you have your quick travel up for a quick trip to Anchorhead then it may be worth it. (Situational)
Shock Treatment – Zap some droids with a special ray gun, maybe you gotta kill a few but over all it is super fast easy XP. (Can’t Miss)
Geonosian Counterattack – If you head north for a story quest or even if you don’t, this nice three-part area quest is worth the short trip up here. (Recommended)
Goodwill – This quest nets you the codex entry for Tusken Raider’s and is really fast, be sure to snag it before you head to west Junland, it is just south of the main path and easily missed. (Can’t Miss)
Target Practice – Take the high road to the Dune Sea and you will find sharpshooters all along the way, five quick kills and you are in the money. It can be tough to track down other Tuskens that count toward this quest so I would move on to the Dune Sea Outpost and take the speeder back for a quick turn in. (Can’t Miss)
Penalty for Theft – This quest takes you a little out of the way but is easily completed and has a bonus that doubles up with Heroic 2+ Reap the Whirlwind, so if your can grab a partner then head up north to knock these two out for sure. If you are solo then it might be something to pass up on. (Conditional)
The Dune Sea
The quests here form a nice long loop that involves some driving but no navigating canyons or anything and with how easy the quests are it can be good for your exp bar. Head to Outpost Thorazan, pick em all up and hammer them all out hitting your story quest on your loop.
I’m in it for the gLOREy
In a world with such a plethora of available lore to delve into or establish some back story too, Tatooine was surprisingly dry (har har) when it came to quests that had some interesting lore tidbits. What I did find however, is that the class stories on Tatooine were exceptionally engaging compared to some of the other worlds that you have visited. So, if you get a chance to run around Tatooine on other Republic classes then I would highly recommend it.
With quests like these who needs DKP?
Down the Hole - Easy heroic, watch out for the extra enemies that spawn, there will always be groups of three, two silvers and a gold, if you don’t see one then it will unstealth when you pull.
The Long Goodbye – If you are level 26 or above you should be able to get past the big dumb piggy’s and on to the Sarlaacc pit to toss the grenade in for an easy solo. If you are level 25, send your companion in on a suicide mission, run past, toss the grenade and make like a tree and leave.
Reap the Whirlwind – This quest is a bit out of the way, and not as easy as some of the other Heroic 2′s so generally I will give it a pass, but if you are heading up into the area then grab a friend and crank it out, many classes should have a droid crowd control (CC) at this point to manage the large groups.
Search and Rescue – You will need a decent group for this with some form of CC, but as long as you are careful to not pull multiple packs it shouldn’t take you too long to get what you need and get out.
Well that’s all for our visit to Tatooine folks, next week we will check in with what the Empire is up to on everyone’s favorite water challenged world. Give me your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
