New Feature – The SWTOR Whine of the Week:

First up, we got this comment from The Grand Nagus, a listener of the show/reader of the site:

Hey folks, long time listener, first time commenting. Ive enjoyed the show for some time, but not so much lately because it seems like half of the show is just whining about other people whining. I get that you love the game and dont like to read complaints, but listening to you complain about other people complaining isnt very fun. So please, discuss the news and share your opinions on the game, but please dont do so much whining about other people whining. Its just lame :p

Nagus, we’d like to point out that you have now whined about our whining about other people whining about SWTOR.  This worries us.  If, for example, another listener should gripe about your griping about our griping about other people griping about SWTOR, it might cause a rip in the space time continuum, and the universe might be destroyed.  In an effort to avoid this cataclysm, we’re implementing a new feature:  the SWTOR Whine of the Week.  In the Whine of the Week, we’ll highlight someone’s whining, complaining, or other griping, and we’ll also highlight the developers’ response(s) to the aforementioned bitchin’.  We’re hoping this will be as funny as it sounded over 11 glasses of wine (Get it?  Get it?  We came up with this idea about whining while drinking wine!)  when we thought it up last night.  ;)

Anyway, on to this week’s whine:

Rileysoph posted the following on the message boards:

A few weeks ago life day stuff from last year were selling on the GTN for millions because they were SUPER RARE and UNOBTAINABLE and the people who had them could show everyone that they were there, that they were in the game since that time, that they participated in the event.

And now you’ve brought back the exact same stuff from last year? Complete and utter laziness. There is no excuse. Bioware had a full year to come up with something new for it. I’m sorry but this game has just turned into a cash grab. I wouldn’t be surprised if they bring back that stupid pumpkin chamber and that womp rat thing.

Eric Musco responded by saying:

Hey Rileysoph,

We chose to bring back the Life Day items this year for a few reasons. Last year when we had the Life Day items, the Cartel Market was fairly new and so at the time, not a lot of people may have realized that these types of items can be limited. Also, we had not yet launched the Collections UI, which is especially helpful for items such as limited event items.

However, with that being said… It is our intention that after this run we will embargo the Life Day items and that they will not be returning again. Like all things, that is subject to change but currently our plan is that after this year these Life Day items will go into retirement!

Video of the Week:  Devs Playing Galactic Starfighter!

This video was brought to us by Eric Musco and Mike Villalobos, who played some Galactic Starfighter live on TwichTV.  The video from this live play is now embedded below.  It’s good stuff, because it shares the developers’ perspective on the game, and of course, gives out some gameplay tips as they do so.  They also answer player questions as they play!  It’s in two parts, so watch and enjoy!

Discussion:

This is a bit of meta discussion, but we thought that since we were so heavy on SWTOR news this week, you guys might enjoy this.  Our discussion topic sprang from something we mentioned on last week’s show.  We talked about how TORWars is hiring a new writer, and I thought you guys might be interested in hearing a bit from us on what that entails.  So our topic today is Writing Professionally for a Fan Site.

Shout Outs:

  2. TORWars Guild
  3. PayPal Donations – Many thanks to Ash (a.k.a. Helgar) and WowDane for their donations!

The Grand Nagus was a defender and whiner on the STO forums and you still are on the SWTOR forums,i should not talk i get that relax.
Anyways How is this for a valid complaint, SWTOR the only “starwars” game ever made were jedi knights can look like jedi as they are NOOO classic jedi outfits in the game….Anyways Wildstar stress test this weekend weeeeeeeee.ABYWAYS vodka clearly makes this show alot of fun :)

  2. Caligari says:

    Yay for a new podcast!

Any chance we can get DD to do a whole podcast in her Mickey voice???? :D

  3. Thross says:

I really like the romping, zany humor that is at the core of the podcast, and I hope that never goes away. If you need to cut back on the frequency of the podcasts due to time and family constraints, how about a podcast every two weeks or just once a month?

I like the Wine of the Week feature.

I’d like to see occasionally a survey on the website about some aspect of SWTOR. It doesn’t have to be a really involved survey like the ones Darth Hater used to do that had multiple questions and response possibilities. It could be just a simple one question survey with say five possible responses, and some of the possible responses could even be silly. I see the survey as a seed for discussion that then continues in the comments section where readers can react to the survey results and discuss the survey findings.

If you want a really good Austin vodka, see if you can find Deep Eddy. You’ll never go back to Tito’s!!

Don’t usually comment, so here goes. I hope its still usefull

I have been a listener for a very long time, (on & off, along with the game). I enjoy the way you guys present information. It is fun, unique and breaks from the monotonous tone of “news” without making the information biased.

I also enjoy the way you guys take opposite sides from time to time, actually quite a bit. It is an innovative way to explore the ideas of both side of an argument, without (again) presenting the information in a biased way.

I, as a listener am happy with where the show is now, but am very confident in your guys’ ability to make decisions that your fans will like as well.

By the way, I encountered my self from the future not a couple minutes ago, I think you may have induced a temporal paradox. He commented on the comment that i am writing right now. He said that commenting on the comments of other peoples’ comments about whining about your whining about other people’s whining may induce a temporal paradox. Um, what just happened?

    Heh, vodka snobs, nice.

  8. Mooch says:

Whining about people whining about whining about whiners while drinking wine?

    Whineception.

Love the the new feature, guys. Pointing out the insane hyperbole that shows up on forums is more amusing than it should be.

It’s also great that you guys also address the kernel of truth from which the madness springs.

  9. J.W. Hollis says:

    Whineception! LOVE IT! :)

  10. Chungus says:

Since Olivia was born this has basically become a comedy podcast, and since there is barely ever news about the game any more anyway, that’s good. You 2 are quite funny.

    • Well, we gotta go where our strengths lie or die, and death is not an option. Times are changing and we’re rolling with the punches. That being said, we still love our listeners and really want to meet their needs. It would seem, a lot of them need laughter, so let the hilarity ensue. Cheers!

  11. Paikea says:

As far as the direction of the site goes, you mentioned focus on the podcast as a possibility last time and I would very much agree with that one. While I read and enjoy many of your articles, the podcasts fit me better as I can listen to them while playing the game for example. And the podcasts make for hilarity that will never make it to a written article. I’ve tried other SWTOR podcasts but your style fits my taste the best, so keep doing what your doing. News are not the most important, I will always get that faster following dev tracker, reddit etc. but it’s still interesting to hear your opinions on them.

  12. Jasma'n says:

As lots of people already said, your podcasts are awesome! I like your style (always sounds like you’re having fun!), and also very much appreciate how you include summaries like this in written format.

On a side note, I’m not much of a writer for anything but guild recruiting, but I can edit if you’re ever looking for volunteers. :)
