The Star Wars: The Old Republic Community Team

In this segment, Deirdre and Jeff discuss the formation of the “Star Wars Story Group”, which offers fans a whole new take on what is, and is not, canon in the Star Wars universe.  Consider these quotes from Leland Chee, a member of the Story Team:

Star Wars Canon is now determined by the Lucasfilm Story Group which [Pablo Hidalgo] and I are both a part of.

Story Group has a hand in all facets of Star Wars storytelling, including movies, TV, games, and publishing. More so than ever, the canon field will serve us internally simply for classification rather than setting hierarchy.

[Disposing of the hierarchy and having one cohesive canon is] definitely a primary goal of the Story Group.

In this segment, your hosts discuss the latest rumor (now confirmed!) that Disneyland is doing away with Tomorrowland, and replacing it with Star Wars Land.

There will be multiple rides and attractions based on the Star Wars universe.

Disney Imagineers have been briefed on elements of Episode VII, in order to include those features in Star Wars Land.

Three key attractions in Star Wars land were specifically mentioned:

  1. A Milennium Falcon “walk through” on the old People Mover platform is on the drawing board.
  2. The Mos Eisley Cantina is slated to replace the old Tomorrowland Terrace.
  3. A Speederbike ride through Endor is planned to replace Autopia.

  2. TORWars Guild
  3. PayPal Donations – Unfortunately, there were none this week.  ;(

Good show as always.Today communication have been good in the dev tracker.Devs move your butts and out in cross server gameplay for PvP !!

So tired of this PT hate from the very minor part of the “fanbase”
Most fans love PT even thou most of us hate jarjar.
Anyways most of the story in Emire was written by George with some
by Lawrence Kasdan, Leigh Brackett. Leigh died during production and George to over again.Btw quote: A New Hope in perpetuity in all media worldwide. They also hold theatrical, nontheatrical and home video rights to the other Star Wars films through May 2020, but their ownership of A New Hope is without an end date.

And George made big contracts with Disney that tok months to make
were things like certain lore had to be respected and alot more.
So the silly things in the EU will never be canon.
Also George got a big share of stocks in Disney during the deal.
And Kathleen kennedy is best friends with George the man who put her in charge and she will never do anything to lore etc that will piss off Lucas :)Also Papblo and Leland who have been in charge of the canon
were put there by George and they actually talked to him alot, even on the set making the insider movies during PT production. Was a few more things that were alittle off but i will let it go.Check out rebel force radio for the ultimate star wars insider info and news.

    Hi M1!

Agree on the Kennedy-Lucas friendship, and you make a good point – that make affect the integrity of current lore.

I think the contracts with Disney took a very long time, and it’s possible that certain limited elements of lore were in the contracts, but that would be highly unusual.

I disagree, however, that Pablo and Leland communicated frequently with George. In an interview back in the day, they described their process, and that process was entirely George free. They had to do a substantial amount of guessing, including that specific example about the planey Stewjon. Urrrrgggg….STEWJONNNNNNNNNN…..

give me a Varactyl pet. I love the mounts, my sniper have has one.

Canon levels go like this: G-Canon > T-Canon > C-Canon > S-Canon > N-Canon (non-canon). the star wars movies are G-canon, for example. Clone wars series is T-canon. The children of Han and Leia and Luke (Legacy of the force books and such) = C-canon. S-Canon is stuff like the game Star Wars Galaxies.

    I hope they wont re-release the first 3 movies. I want G-canon or C-canon please in 7-8 and 9.

Now a comment on what I felt was missing in this podcast: why no discussion on patch 2.6, which for me, killed SWTOR? Snipers/gunslingers are not a useless class come 2.6, 62.5% nerf to orbital strike/ Freighter flyby damage says it all. they also killed the hybrid PT/VG dps spec, which currently is the best dps spec for VG/PT.

    Amber’s new suit…haha! 😀

  5. SubFT says:

I loved the conversation about the change to the setup of Star Wars cannon organization. One thing though, 20th Century Fox never owned the Star Wars films, only the distribution rights. This included the right to put films in the theaters under the 20th Century Fox banner, but also Fox Home Video. Lucas retained ownership of the actual films and merchandising until the sale of Lucasfilm, Ltd. in 2013.

On a related topic, Lucas’ haphazard treatment of Star Wars cannon has alienated some from the brand. An example was the Republic/Imperial Trooper series, along with some of the Legacy of the Force series of books by Karen Traviss. Much of the background for Mandalorians was fleshed out by Traviss, including the Mandolorian language, Mando’a, which is heard in SWTOR at times. Lucas made changes to the culture in The Clone Wars cartoon show that went against Traviss’ work. As a result, Karen Traviss never completed the Republic/Imperial Trooper book series story.

    • SubFT says:

I should have mentioned as well that because Traviss only worked in novels, what she did was trumped by the TV show according to the multi-tiered makeup of cannon under Lucas.

    • Altoholic says:

of the 3 writers of the Legacy of the Force books, if you ask the fans, Karen Traviss was the worst one. Personally, I don’t think she was so bad, but the other 2 were better. She had this thing about Mandalorians, so all 3 of her books (they did 3 each) were full of mando crap about Boba Fett (I dislike Mandalorians). Some said it was her Idea to kill off Luke Skywalker’s wife, Mara Jade. This angered some of the fans, as someone else had plans about writing a book about them after, but that couldn’t happen now she was dead.

      • SubFT says:

The point I was making was about the screwed up situation created by the multileveled nature of Lucas’ cannon. Your opinion as to the quality writings of Karen Traviss versus the others who wrote the remaining books of the “Legacy of the Force” series is irrelevant to the conversation.

        • Altoholic says:

it is not my opinion of her work, it’s everyone elses. The majority of the fans that have read her work say she isn’t very good. I say, she isn’t bad, just not as good as the other 2 that wrote the other 6 books. And Personally, I hate Mandalorians and her 3 books were full of them. Why do I hate mandalorians? Because they are Glory Hunters, that is what they live for. They don’t care if they win or lose, so long as they go down in history as something great. which makes them have loser mentality. If you don’t want to win or care to, you don’t deserve to.

    • Ahhh, good to know, thank you for the correction. Still, do you think we’d ever see a re-release of the original trilogy in it’s original un-enhanced form?

  6. Saratje says:

Hah on the image. I guess that must be ‘Bossk Hog’?
